Answer: 8. A spider has 8 legs, while an insect has only 6: that's why a spider is not an insect! It belongs to the arachnid family, like the scorpion.
Answer: A frog. A tadpole is born in water and breathes through gills, like a fish. Little by little its legs grow, its tail disappears, and it becomes a frog that can also live on land.
Answer: The Moon. The Moon takes about 27 days to go around the Earth. It always shows us the same side: you can only see its far side by travelling into space!
Answer: Tyrannosaurus. T. rex was up to 12 metres long and had teeth as big as bananas! Its arms, on the other hand, were so short that it couldn't even reach its mouth with them.
Answer: 4. Spring, summer, autumn and winter follow one another because the Earth is slightly tilted as it travels around the Sun. When it's summer in France, it's winter in Australia!
Answer: 206. A baby is born with about 300 bones, but some fuse together as it grows. The smallest bone is in the ear: the stirrup, barely bigger than a grain of rice. The longest is the thigh bone, the femur.
Answer: 56. It's one of the times tables people forget most often! A tip: write 5, 6, 7, 8 in order… and you get 56 = 7 × 8.
Answer: The air scatters mostly the blue part of sunlight. Sunlight contains all the colours of the rainbow. As it passes through the air, blue light is scattered in all directions much more than other colours: it reaches our eyes from everywhere, so the sky looks blue.
Answer: The ostrich. An ostrich egg weighs about 1.5 kilos, as much as twenty or so hen's eggs! The ostrich is also the biggest bird in the world: it can't fly, but it runs very fast.
Answer: 20. Children have 20 baby teeth, which fall out gradually from around the age of 6. They are replaced by permanent teeth: an adult usually has 32, counting wisdom teeth.
