Answer: 'Because the mirror never laughs at their jokes.'. A mirror is the worst possible audience: it never laughs, never buys a round, and on top of that, it throws your own stage moves right back at you.
Answer: Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks). An iconic line from the film Forrest Gump, often quoted for being both philosophical and funny.
Answer: Because you can see right through their bluffs.. Even ghosts have their limits!
Answer: The 'thon' rises. A French pun: 'ton' (tone, as in tone of voice) and 'thon' (tuna) are homophones — so literally, 'the tuna rises'.
Answer: Rice. A French pun: 'riz' (rice) and 'rire' (to laugh) are homophones.
Answer: ‘They're right behind you…’. The punchline works because the librarian feeds exactly the fear the reader wants to cure. The whisper is essential: the joke is told in a low voice, with a glance over the shoulder.
Answer: Pierre Desproges. Desproges, the king of dark humor, could easily have written this macabre joke. Luckily for us, he chose to write books instead.
Answer: Because even when hidden, you can hear them thinking. A philosopher hiding: 'So, if I'm not seen, do I really exist?'... Footsteps fading away.
Answer: Kaamelott (Alexandre Astier). An iconic line from the French series Kaamelott, which has become a popular meme in France.
Answer: By hitting its testicles with bricks (without leaving your fingers between the bricks). A radical method, but an effective one. (Do not try this at home.)
Answer: That there is at least one sheep in Scotland with at least one black side. The astronomer generalises too fast (‘all Scottish sheep are black’), the physicist is more careful (‘some are’), but only the mathematician states nothing beyond what he actually saw. A joke that sums up rigour… taken to absurdity.
